YOUTH TENNIS LEAGUES PROGRAM

The Basics:

  • 6 or 8 weeks, 2 hours
  • 1 hour of instruction with a pro, 1 hour of match play with a pro
  • The player to instructor ratio is never more than 6:1
  • Ages: 7 to 12 years old, low to high intermediate player

Some examples of what we focus on each week:

  • Effective movement
  • Forehand and background groundstrokes
  • Rallying with consistency
  • Serve and return progression
  • Net Game - approach shots, volleys and overheads

DRILLS AND MATCH PLAY

1ST HOUR DRILLS OBJECTIVE: 

  • Introduce new skills AND develop the skills learned in previous sessions
  • Teach how, why and when to play the different shots and where to be positioned on the court

SESSION STRUCTURE:

  • Warm-up activity
  • Practice drills to develop new skill in a playing situation
  • Team game that reinforces the skills and tactics of the playing situation

2ND HOUR MATCH PLAY OBJECTIVE:

  • Maximize the playing time using different formats including: 
    • Short sets - first to 4 games
    • "First to Five" point play
    • 7-point tiebreaks
    • 10-minute timed matches

Enable the player to gain confidence and have fun learning while competing.
